Highway Patrol Trooper Sean Groubert in Columbia, South Carolina shot at Levar Jones multiple times, striking him in the hip after stopping him for a seatbelt violation.
Groubert instructed Jones to obtain his license and as he attempted to do so, Groubert began to shoot. Baltimore police surveillance camera captured a confrontation between officer Vincent E. Cosom Jr. and unarmed man, Kollin Truss, at a bus stop on East North Avenue. The encounter resulted in the officer unwarrantedly assaulting the man. The Baltimore police department suspended the officer, charged with second-degree assault, and perjury after writing in a statement of probable cause that Truss had assaulted him.
Officer in Brooklyn, New York shot unarmed 28-year-old black man, Akai Gurley, in the hallway of Louis H. Pink Houses, located in East New York. The victim was walking down the stairwell with his girlfriend when NYPD officer Peter Liang shot him, claiming that the stairwell was dimly lit.
Phoenix officer opened fire on unarmed black man Rumain Brisbon, 34, after believing that the man had a gun. Instead Brisban had a pill bottle in his pocket. Witness Brandon Dickerson was with Brisban at the time of the shooting and said that he, “didn’t hear the police say anything of police nature,” before killing.’
20-year-old Caucasian Dillon Taylor, 20, was unarmed and no threat after being shot by a police officer. He had his headphones in his ear and didn’t hear the officer tell him to stop.
